Your People Haven't Logged In Yet. What Should HR Do?

A low-pressure activation playbook for HR teams that have already sent employee reward credit but still have people who have not opened the store.

Do not assume non-activation means rejection

An employee who has not logged in may be busy, on leave, unsure what the email is, unable to find the message or simply planning to deal with it later.

Activation data is a signal that someone has not yet entered the experience. It is not proof they dislike the reward.

Start by removing friction rather than increasing pressure.

Check delivery before messaging again

Confirm the original notification reached the expected work email or employee channel. Look for obvious data issues before sending another reminder to an address that was wrong the first time.

If a group has unusually low activation, test whether the instructions themselves are confusing.

Patterns matter more than chasing individuals immediately.

Make the reminder useful

A good nudge tells the employee what they received, who it is from and what the next action is. It should not read like a debt collection notice for an employee benefit.

Keep the message short and make the sign-in destination obvious.

If the credit has an expiry, include the date plainly.

Do not manufacture urgency

If there is no genuine deadline, do not invent one simply to improve the activation chart. Employees may reasonably choose to browse later.

Metrics should help HR improve the programme, not turn a reward into another task employees are being chased to complete.

We discuss that principle in activation and spend rate.

Use support questions as product feedback

If several employees ask the same question, the problem is probably not the employees. Improve the message, instructions or store experience.

Activation is useful because it exposes where the journey loses people.

The best reminder programme is the one that becomes less necessary over time.

After the nudge

Give employees space to act. Focus support on genuine access problems and let the reward remain theirs to use within the programme rules.

Successful activation is not about forcing a click. It is about making the value easy to understand and easy to access.
